AirPods Pro 3 Review: Best for Small Ears and Health Tracking

In September 2025, I upgraded to the newest AirPods Pro (3rd generation / 2025 model), and after using them daily through commuting, exercising, work, and casual listening, here’s how they stack up — especially for someone like me with small ears and a heart condition who depends on comfort and reliability.

Before diving into my impressions, here’s what Apple is claiming (reviewers have confirmed):

  • Apple advertises that these deliver “the world’s best in-ear Active Noise Cancellation,” removing up to 2× more noise compared to the previous generation. Apple
  • They now include foam-infused ear tips in five sizes (including a new XXS) for better fit and isolation. Apple
  • Built-in heart rate sensing lets you track your pulse via the Fitness app. Apple
  • Battery life is improved: with ANC on, Apple claims up to 8 hours of listening. Apple
  • Independent reviews have measured ~8 hours 42 minutes of continuous use in ANC mode. SoundGuys
  • In lab testing, reviewers found that these AirPods reduce ambient noise, on average 90% (a very high level of ANC). SoundGuys

My Personal Experience & Impressions

Below are what I perceive as the biggest wins (and a few caveats) after several weeks of use.

Comfort & Fit (Especially for Small Ears)

  • I used to struggle with earlier versions: after about an hour or so, I’d start getting pressure or pain in my ears. With this new model, that issue seems mostly gone. I can wear them for several hours straight without discomfort.
  • Because I have small ears, the availability of XXS, XS, S tips is great. The more precise fit helps with comfort and stability.
  • For me, the main benefit is that they don’t fall out. Even during light movement or head turns, I rarely feel them shift or loosen — something earlier models struggled with for me.

Noise Cancellation & Sound Isolation

  • The ANC improvement is noticeable. In settings (coffee shop, city street, etc.), ambient sounds fade more effectively.
  • The foam-infused tips help with passive isolation, making ANC more efficient.
  • That said, I don’t feel total silence in extreme situations (very loud engines, construction), but the difference vs prior models is meaningful in everyday life.

Battery Life & Usability

  • In my typical use (mix of music/podcasts, moderate volume) I get through nearly an entire workday comfortably without needing to recharge midday.
  • I can’t yet confirm the absolute top-end claim Apple makes, but my experience aligns with reviews that measured 8+ hours of runtime.
  • One practical plus: I rarely feel anxiety about battery dying mid-use the way I did with older models.

Health & Heart Rate Monitoring

  • Because I have a heart condition, the inclusion of heart rate monitoring is a key feature for me.
  • In casual tests (walking, light movement), the built-in sensor in the AirPods gives plausible readings, which integrate with iPhone’s Fitness app.
  • Independent publications (e.g. Tom’s Guide) compared the AirPods Pro heart rate data with chest strap monitors and found them surprisingly accurate in many use cases. Tom’s Guide
  • Caveat: I’d still use a medical or clinical device when precision is critical but as a daily check-in, it’s a solid bonus.

Accessories I added: Protective case.

What I Like About This Case

  • Affordability: It offers solid protection at a much lower price than many premium cases.
  • MagSafe Charging Works with Case On: I love that I don’t need to remove the case to wirelessly charge the AirPods. The magnetic alignment holds well.
  • Lanyard Included & Decent Quality: The lanyard is a useful addition for portability — say, hanging from a bag or keychain — and it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy.
  • Fit & Access: All cutouts (LED, USB/charging port) align well, and the case doesn’t make the AirPods bulky in the pocket.

This case is a practical, functional choice that balances features and cost.

Pros, Cons & Verdict

👍 Pros

  • Much better comfort and fit for small ears
  • Substantial improvement in ANC & isolation
  • Reliable battery life for full-day use
  • Heart rate tracking — a meaningful bonus for health-minded users
  • No more worry that they’ll fall out

👎 Cons / Caveats

  • The foam tips and firmer seal may feel more “present” in-ear than earlier soft tips
  • In extremely loud environments, some noise still seeps in
  • Heart rate sensor is good for everyday use but not a replacement for clinical devices
  • I haven’t fully stress-tested battery life under extreme use, so real-world extremes may differ
